How Hypnosis Works

As an autistic person myself (AuDHD), I understand firsthand how traditional hypnosis approaches often don't work for our brains. Unlike traditional hypnosis methods designed for neurotypical brains with visualizations, in-sessions surprises, and NT metaphors, with the help of my fellow neurodivergent volunteers in the NeuroSpicy Community online, I've been focused on developing methods specifically for how WE process information - with multiple sensory options, room for fidgeting, NO surprises, and no requirement to "visualize" if that doesn't work for you.

Q: ​Will this work if I think in words or logic or feelings, not pictures?

A: Some of us picture things, some of us sense or feel things. Hypnosis designed specifically for neurodivergent minds meets you where you are. We use your natural thinking style instead of forcing visualization. It's adaptable to every neurotype.

Here are some of the ways I've found that hypnosis needs to be different for us:

• We need to know EXACTLY what is going to happen in a session - no surprises. We get much better results this way.
• We are very interested in the process, often analyzing it so that it's not as easy to relax - Trance Practice fixes that.
• Often traditional hypnotists use language that makes us think we need to be perfectly still - not so, we can move or stim as much as makes us feel comfortable.
• We need OPTIONS and not literal statements! If we are given many options for "visualizations" (many of us don't visualize) and for metaphors, our minds are free to create anything that works for us - and we tend to be quite creative.
• We need to deeply understand and accept that WE are the ones in control in a session. Period.
• We need to know that there is no way we can be doing it "wrong" - that whatever our minds conjure up is the correct way for us as an individual.

I always suggest everyone start with Trance Practice!

​The first couple of times someone tried to hypnotize me, I could NOT drop into trance. I think I was just so captivated by the whole process, and was paying so much attention to the words and how it was done, that my brain couldn't RELAX enough. And I'm pretty sure some other autists would have the same experience.

So you won't have to go through the same scenario, here is TRANCE PRACTICE. All it does is take you into trance, let you sit there a minute, then take you back out. There are NO suggestions - it's just relaxing practice so your brain can listen to the process all it wants to until you're ready to relax and go into trance. AND the more often you practice, the easier and deeper you'll go into each successive trance so you an easily get more good stuff accomplished!

Q: ​I feel disconnected from myself from masking so much—how do I find who I really am?

A: Self-exploration is easier with hypnosis, which creates a safe space to explore your authentic self without the performance layer. You gradually rebuild trust in your own needs, preferences, and identity. And when I use Ultra-Height Hypnosis, your exploration remains completely personal - you needn't share anything with me.

"Shoutout for Cyrilla Pond's hypnosis sessions for the curious or wary
Hello fellow neurospicy humans, I have now gone to at least four sessions of Cyrilla Pond's hypnosis sessions, and it has been well worth my time. If you are worried about losing control, but are curious, I want to in my own words share something Cyrilla says in her intro to hypnosis: You hypnotize yourself and you remain in control. People can only be hypnotized to do what they already want to do.
With that preamble out of the way, I want to especially shout out Cyrilla's stress relief sessions. One of the suggestions there during hypnosis was to help notice stress when out of hypnosis and release it with a "Whoosh." I found myself doing this, which is typically hard for me, in the middle of an argument...when I was teary eyed and in distress.
Cyrilla does a great job making the sessions accessible for our neurospicy brains by offering lots of options in addition to visualization and offering alternative explanations rather than single metaphors. I had tried hypnosis before and couldn't get into it, but Cyrilla's sessions are great." - Nancy


"I have a bottomless well of gratitude for the gift that Cyrilla offers with her skills of guidance into a space of unlimited potential! I have tried hypnosis before and it was a fail each time for different reasons, but this formula really helped me achieve a depth relaxation that i couldn't before. I'm safe at home in my very comfy bed, I know that my companions are with me on this journey but our experiences will be unique. I wish to share that I have found nothing that compares to the pain relief that I experience during and after a session! I have tried so many things for intractable neuropathy, I have seriously considered amputation for relief from my feet. putting on socks the fabric feels like steel wool and razor wire and walking feels like trudging through electrified lava. At best I live at level 4 pain but eating anything high in sodium can send me right up to 8! Not only do I come out of trance with my pain cut in half, but I can revisit that peaceful place where I see my pain drifting away in tendrils, whenever I need to (well maybe not if I'm driving) and I get a boost! I have suffered for over four years and spent a lot of money without finding anything that helped.
